Kaylana lake
Jodhpur, a city in western side of Indian state Rajasthan, is a gateway of Thar desert. In summer, Sun is in its extreme form. There is temperature about 40 degree or more and if rain happens on time then it will be a boon for Jodhpur citizens, so it is kind of dry state. Sources of water are few in Jodhpur than other cities like Udaipur, Jaipur etc. To having a lake like Kaylana is graceful for Jodhpuris.
Kaylana Lake is located 8 km north-west of " Blue city". It is an artificial lake, built by Pratap Singh in 1872. The lake spreads over an area of 84 km2. Where the lake now lies, was once an area having palaces and beautiful gardens of two rulers of Jodhpur(Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh). These were destroyed to make Kaylana Lake.
The lake is situated between fiery rock land formations. It receives its water from  elephant canal which is further connected to the Indra Gandhi canal. The natural vegetation here mostly consists of Babool trees .The city of Jodhpur and all the surrounding towns and villages depend on Kaylana lake as a source of drinking water. Average depth of Kaylana lake is approx. 11 to 12m. Water outflow from Kaylana to Takhat sagar and Umaid sagar.
Boating facilities are available for tourists and citizens. It is an ideal picnic spot. Mandlenath, Machiya Safari Biological park are just 5 to 10 min. away from Kaylana so it is great location to hangout.
